Haris and his five languages
Haris's family are Pontic Greeks, and like thousands of others, were forced from their homes as part of the horrific Greek-Turkish population exchange. After settling in the Florina region they were evacuated during the Greek Civil War and fled to Russia. They were on the move again in the 1960s when they relocated to Uzbekistan, where Haris was born. But he grew up and was schooled in Prague after his family moved to Czechoslovakia when he was three. The family returned to Greece in the 1980s, but with few jobs available, Haris moved to Germany for work, before settling in Greece and taking up beekeeping.
