A bevy of roe deer!

This puddle has been a treasure trove of video content! I've never had so many roe deer on one camera video before.

All roe deer have a white bum, although they differ slightly. The male is kind of kidney shaped, whereas the females have a heart shape. And whilst doe deer with antlers are clearly male, they lose their antlers in early winter. So the kidney shaped bum is a useful sign.

What's interesting in these 3 minutes of video is that we have at least one adult male amongst the females. Usually roe deer exclude the other sex from their territories, with the exception of mating season or their offspring from the previous year. But mating season isn't until late spring and summer...

And what happened to the side of the male? Fighting?
