Our first Painted lady of the year

The Painted lady (Vanessa cardui) is wide spread throughout the world, with a wing-span of about 5-9 cm and a life cycle of 5-8 weeks. Unlike human painted ladies, these butterflies love a thistle, which provides them with nectar and hosts their larvae. This one was found on the hills above the gorgeous fishing village of Psardes.
