The (Brown) Bear Necessities
Prespa has two huge lakes, so you might think water is easy to find. But even bears want to avoid humans and other large animals, which means that drinking on the lake shore isn't always safe. To make the lives of animals a little more difficult, large parts of western Prespa sit on porous limestone and the rain water sinks straight through it. That means no streams and very few springs for the animals to use. On the Albanian side of Prespa they even call it Dry Mountain - 'Mali i Thate'.
But relief is found after huge storms! Puddles form in the forests and these become a haven for drinking, and even a little bath.
