Green woodpecker (Picus viridis)

Updated: May 8, 2020

Put a trail camera in a place like Prespa and you get a never ending supply of great videos. Not just mammals too, hundreds of birds sit down in front of it to find food. What's great about getting a Green woodpecker on camera is that they're normally shy birds that we hear, but don't easily see.

Interestingly, unlike other ‪‎woodpeckers‬, the Green forages on the ground instead of head-butting trees. But they do use their heads when excavating nests! A beautiful bird.
