Spending the night on Wasp Mountain
Updated: May 8, 2020

Mt. Sfika, an unusual name for a mountain, meaning wasp in Greek.
Situated at the southern end of the Prespa basin and now referred to on maps as Mt Triklario, Sfika is the local name for the summit and for a village abandoned since the Greek Civil War in the late 1940s.

We didn't see any wasps, but we saw and heard plenty of other natural delights on our overnight hike and camping trip, including a curious moth and a grasshopper.

There were also a long line of canine tracks. Telling the difference between wolf and dog is difficult for us, but as we followed these tracks for half a kilometre in the mud, we saw no sheep or goat tracks, which usually accompany the sheep dogs. The dead straight line also suggested a wolf, as dogs tend to veer left and right as they smell.
